US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in New Delhi as part of his ongoing visit to India ahead of the Quad foreign ministers’ meeting.
Rubio earlier visited Kolkata, where he toured the Missionaries of Charity headquarters and a children’s home linked to the organisation. It is the first time in 14 years that a US Secretary of State has visited Kolkata.
He reached Delhi along with his wife Jeanette Rubio and the US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor. Rubio is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi for discussions.
He is also expected to hold detailed talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on trade, security, technology, energy cooperation and the Indo-Pacific strategy.
Rubio is set to travel to Agra and Jaipur as well. The visit comes ahead of the Quad foreign ministers’ meeting scheduled for May 26.
