Thailand has withdrawn the 60-day visa-free stay facility that had been available to visitors from several countries, including India, officials said in Bangkok.

The scheme was introduced in July 2024 as part of efforts to boost tourism, extending visa-free entry for up to 60 days to travellers from India, Israel and Australia among others.

Authorities said the facility was being misused by some foreign nationals, with cases linked to illegal business activities and drug trafficking. Citing national security, the government has now cancelled the extended visa-free stay option.

Under the revised rules, Indian travellers will no longer be able to enter Thailand without a visa. They must obtain a visa on arrival or apply online for an e-visa.

Officials clarified that until the new procedure formally takes effect, foreign nationals who have already arrived in Thailand can continue to stay for up to 60 days under the earlier rules.
