Social media platforms have seen a fresh wave of criticism targeting VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan, with users accusing him of taking contradictory stands in quick succession.
The online backlash has been driven by clips and quotes from the past six months, where Thirumavalavan has repeatedly commented on actor-politician Vijay and his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Netizens claim the remarks show frequent shifts in tone and position.
In January and February, he questioned Vijay’s political approach and suggested that relying on cinema fame alone would not be enough in the absence of towering leaders like Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa. He also criticised Vijay for not issuing even a statement against the BJP while projecting himself as a challenger for power.
In March and April, he compared Vijay’s welfare announcements to an attempt to imitate the DMK’s initiatives, and warned that aligning TVK with the AIADMK-BJP combine could damage Vijay’s political future. During campaign meetings, he also defended the DMK government’s record, argued that the contest remained largely bipolar between the DMK and AIADMK alliances, and continued to take digs at Vijay’s chief ministerial ambitions.
The compilation of these statements is now being widely shared, with critics alleging inconsistency and calling his approach opportunistic. The debate continues to trend across social media, with supporters and opponents trading sharp reactions.
