Minister’s remarks in Kumbakonam
Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister Vinoth, speaking to reporters in Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district, addressed questions on farmers’ crop loans and Cauvery delta irrigation.
Crop loan waiver decision
On whether farmers’ crop loans would be waived, the minister said the Chief Minister Vijay would make the announcement on the matter.
Cauvery delta irrigation discussions
He said consultations are under way regarding the opening of water from the Mettur dam on June 12 for Cauvery delta irrigation.
Proposal for a new district
The minister also said a request has been made to the Chief Minister to create a new district with Kumbakonam as its headquarters, adding that it would happen soon.
