The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a heavy rain warning for 19 districts in Tamil Nadu for Saturday (May 24) and Sunday (May 25).

The department said an atmospheric circulation prevailing over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining central Bay is expected to trigger heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder, lightning and strong winds.

Districts under the alert include Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Vellore, Perambalur, Tiruchirappalli, Namakkal, Karur, Dindigul, Theni and Madurai.

For May 26, the weather office also indicated the possibility of heavy rain with thunder and gusty winds at isolated places over the hilly areas of Coimbatore and Tiruppur, and in Nilgiris, Theni, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari districts.
