India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said terrorism continues to be a shared challenge for India and the United States after meeting US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in New Delhi.
The talks were held at Hyderabad House, where the two leaders discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties. Jaishankar said the discussions also covered developments in the Gulf and the wider West Asia region amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
He added that both sides reviewed cooperation in areas such as security, trade, energy and emerging technologies. While India and the US have common interests, he said they also face common challenges, and reiterated that India’s position on terrorism is “very clear.”
Rubio said there were many issues to discuss and areas where the two countries could work together, calling the India-US relationship important as two of the world’s largest democracies. He also referred to some progress in talks between the US and Iran, and said the Strait of Hormuz should remain open for shipping without tolls.
