New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a Union Cabinet meeting soon after returning to Delhi from an overseas visit, surprising senior officials who expected him to rest after five days of travel.
The meeting began at 5 pm and ran for about four-and-a-half hours, with Union ministers in attendance. During the discussions, the Prime Minister spoke about issues faced by countries worldwide due to the Iran war.
Officials said the meeting’s arrangements were unusually frugal. Unlike the customary spread of snacks such as pakoras, sandwiches, tea, coffee and biscuits, only tea was served at first.
After some officials reportedly questioned the cutbacks, biscuits were later provided. The meeting ended around 9.30 pm, and those expecting dinner said it was not arranged.
According to the report, the Prime Minister also remarked that major political changes had taken place in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, and said the two states should be supported.
