DMK president M.K. Stalin on Saturday described the recent developments in Tamil Nadu as a “cinema tsunami” rather than a political wave, and said the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government would not complete a five-year term.

Speaking at a DMK Youth Wing office-bearers meeting at Anna Arivalayam in Chennai, Stalin alleged that TVK leader Vijay became Chief Minister due to the pull of cinema and public fascination.

Drawing an analogy, he said people often demand a new toy but lose interest within days, adding that voters who went behind an actor would eventually return to the DMK, as a child returns to its mother.

Stalin also said many people were saddened by the DMK’s defeat and stressed that youth are the future of the party. He urged the organisation to update its plans and methods with changing times.

Calling for stronger outreach, he asked party workers to use social media effectively and to hold constructive discussions with young people both directly and through online platforms.
