Police in Uttar Pradesh have registered an FIR against state Congress president Ajay Rai, alleging he made defamatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a public meeting.

The meeting was held on May 22 at Samath Nagar in Mahoba district. A video clip linked to the alleged remarks later circulated on social media, triggering political attention.

Following a complaint by a BJP worker at the Kotwali police station, the complainant alleged that Rai spoke in an insulting manner about the Prime Minister and attempted to create tension in society, seeking action against him.

Based on the complaint, Kotwali police booked Ajay Rai under multiple sections and registered the case.

Responding to the development, Rai said the video spreading on social media was “completely fake” and claimed it had been created using AI technology by the BJP. He added that he would also file a police complaint and would face the matter legally.
