The Supreme Court on Sunday dismissed a review petition filed by the Tamil Nadu government seeking to prevent Karnataka from preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed Mekedatu dam across the Cauvery.
Tamil Nadu had argued that Karnataka should not be permitted to submit the project report. The state has repeatedly approached the apex court in an attempt to restrain Karnataka’s steps related to the Mekedatu project.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had refused to impose a ban on Karnataka preparing the DPR for the Mekedatu dam. Challenging that decision, Tamil Nadu filed the review petition.
A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant rejected the plea on May 25, stating that a prohibition on preparing the project report for the Mekedatu dam cannot be ordered.
