VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan has urged the Tamil Nadu government to intensify precautionary measures to ensure the safety of women and children, citing recent incidents involving minors.
In a statement, he said the alleged sexual assault and murder of a 10-year-old girl near Sulur in Coimbatore district was shocking and painful. He said he contacted the child’s parents through a video call and offered condolences.
According to the details he cited, the girl went missing on the night of May 21 and her body was later found in a coconut grove near a pond. Police investigation indicated she had been sexually assaulted and killed, and two persons—Karthik and Mohan—have been arrested.
Thirumavalavan called for the accused to be denied bail, for the case to be investigated swiftly, and for stringent punishment to be secured. He also referred to reports of an 11-year-old girl being sexually assaulted near Marakkanam in Villupuram district, and demanded that the affected families be provided appropriate compensation.
Noting that the state has introduced initiatives such as the ‘Singappen’ special force within the police, he said the government must further strengthen preventive steps to stop such heinous crimes from occurring.
