Three AIADMK MLAs — Maragatham Kumaravel, Sathyabama and Jayakumar — resigned from their Assembly posts on Sunday in Chennai. They met Speaker JCD Prabhakar and submitted their resignation letters.

The resignations come amid an internal split in the AIADMK following the party’s defeat in the Assembly election. One section of MLAs is aligned with general secretary EPS, while another group is led by former minister and MLA SP Velumani along with Mayilam MLA CV Shanmugam.

According to the report, MLAs from the Velumani camp had participated in a confidence vote in support of the TAVEGA government and later expressed support. Subsequently, EPS removed party posts held by those MLAs.

With three MLAs stepping down, the AIADMK’s strength in the Assembly is set to fall from 47 to 44. After resigning, the three leaders met Minister Aadhav and later joined TAVEGA.

The MLAs who resigned are: Maragatham Kumaravel (Madurantakam), Sathyabama (Dharapuram) and Jayakumar (Perundurai).
