Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has cancelled online records of 31,328 Waqf Board properties uploaded on the Centre’s ‘Umeed’ portal, citing insufficient supporting documents.
The ‘Umeed’ website was launched after amendments to the Waqf law late last year, with instructions to register Waqf properties nationwide within six months along with detailed information. Properties not registered within the timeline were to be treated as disputed, and submissions were required to include measurements and geo-tagged location details.
A plea seeking extension of the deadline for uploading property details was rejected by the Supreme Court, following which the documentation drive has continued across the country.
In Uttar Pradesh, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a total of 1,18,302 Waqf properties were documented on the portal. Revenue department officials have been verifying the uploaded details against records.
During verification, discrepancies were found between the ‘Khasra’ (land survey) numbers in Waqf Board documents and those submitted online for certain properties. As a result, the state cancelled 31,328 online entries and also rejected 31,192 related Waqf claims in full.
