Chennai: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and Chief Minister Vijay is learnt to have decided to hold a large public meeting along with parties that extended support to his government.
In the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly election, TVK emerged as the single largest party after winning 108 seats. With the party falling short of a majority, Congress, VCK, Communist parties and the Muslim League—earlier part of the DMK alliance—backed TVK, enabling a coalition government with Vijay as Chief Minister.
According to sources in TVK, the proposed rally is being planned as a platform to formally announce these supporting parties as TVK’s alliance partners.
The meeting, seen as a key political event for TVK, was initially planned ahead of the Budget session. However, it could not be held due to developments including the Coimbatore minor sexual assault case and power outage-related issues.
TVK circles said the alliance is expected to be named the “Secular Social Justice Alliance” at the event.
