Three MLAs aligned with former AIADMK minister S P Velumani resigned from the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Sunday and immediately joined the ruling TVK, sparking fresh political churn in the state.
According to the report, the MLAs—Maragatham Kumaravel (Madurantakam), Jayakumar (Perundurai) and Sathyabama (Dharapuram)—visited the Secretariat and submitted their resignation letters to Speaker J C D Prabhakar. The Speaker announced that the resignations had been accepted.
With these resignations, and the earlier vacancy created after Chief Minister Vijay gave up the Tiruchy East seat he had won, the number of vacant Assembly constituencies has risen to four. The development comes within 21 days of the election results, even before the Assembly’s work has begun.
The report also notes that the AIADMK legislature party has been split into two groups—one led by general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and another led by Velumani. Velumani’s side had earlier backed TVK during the floor test, but expectations of cabinet representation were not met during the expansion, leading to discontent.
The article further claims that talks are underway for five more AIADMK MLAs to resign and join TVK, adding to the sudden political excitement in Tamil Nadu.
