Hindu Makkal Katchi state president Arjun Sampath on Sunday alleged that “there is no shame left in politics”, while speaking to reporters in Tiruvarur.
He claimed that more than 40 murders had taken place within 15 days of Joseph Vijay taking charge as the new Chief Minister. He also alleged that crimes against women were reported in areas including Coimbatore, Nagapattinam and Villupuram.
Sampath said issues seen under the previous DMK government were continuing under the present administration as well. He argued that the government had failed to control the additional Rs 10 collected per liquor bottle and said the first signature to eradicate narcotics had not yielded results.
Linking violent incidents to substance abuse, he said reducing the number of TASMAC outlets would not help and demanded that TASMAC shops be shut. He also criticised the decision to give a ministerial post to Vanniyarasu of VCK, recalling a past remark about Vijay, and reiterated that politics had lost its sense of shame.
