Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker has accepted the resignation of AIADMK MLA Isakki Subbaiah, who represents Ambasamudram in Tirunelveli district.

According to the report, the Speaker initially declined to accept a typed resignation letter submitted by Subbaiah, stating it was not handwritten. Subbaiah later provided a handwritten letter, which was then accepted.

Subbaiah is a three-time MLA from Ambasamudram, having first won in 2011 and again in 2021 and 2026. He had also served as the party’s suburban district secretary and was appointed as Minister for Prisons and Law in 2011, but was removed from the cabinet within two months after controversies.

After being denied a ticket in 2016, he was sidelined within the party and later joined T.T.V. Dhinakaran’s AMMK for the 2019 Lok Sabha election, contesting from South Chennai and losing. He rejoined the AIADMK the same year and returned to the Assembly in subsequent elections.

The resignation comes a day after three AIADMK MLAs—Maragatham Kumaravel (Madurantakam), Jayakumar (Perundurai) and Sathyabama (Dharapuram)—also resigned and joined TVK. The back-to-back resignations have triggered fresh political buzz in Tamil Nadu.
