A surprise midnight inspection by Mineral Resources Minister Prabhu at the Tamil Nadu–Kerala border checkpost in Puliyarai has intensified scrutiny of mineral transport to Kerala.

According to the report, thousands of mineral-laden lorries pass through the checkpost daily. Following complaints of irregularities, the minister inspected vehicles heading to Kerala and verified permit passes, questioning officials on the spot.

Separately, Tenkasi District Collector Kamal Kishore had received multiple complaints regarding the functioning of stone quarries in the district. Acting on his directions, the Mineral Resources Department conducted inspections across 54 quarries.

Officials said irregularities were detected in 18 quarries. Orders have been issued to temporarily shut these units, and further action will be taken after a detailed review, the department added.
