New Delhi: The Union government has allocated Rs 1,427.61 crore to develop a four-lane road on the Tiruvarur bypass along National Highway 83, on the Nagapattinam–Thanjavur stretch.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said the project is a key connectivity initiative that will strengthen links between major industrial cities such as Tiruchirappalli and Coimbatore and port towns including Karaikal and Nagapattinam, supporting economic activity in the region.
The bypass corridor between Adiyakkamangalam and Thandalai will pass through areas such as Athipuliyur, Andipalayam, Kidaramkondan, Pallivaramangalam, Perumpugalur, Ilavangarkudi and Anaivadapathi Colony.
Once completed, the project is expected to ease traffic congestion in Tiruvarur and reduce travel time by around 15 minutes. By diverting vehicles away from densely populated and commercial zones, it is also expected to improve road safety.
The project will also aid improvements to State Highways 23 and 65 and provide better connectivity to the Thyagaraja Swamy Temple, contributing to infrastructure development and smoother travel in the area.
