Chennai: Three MLAs who resigned their Assembly seats and later joined TVK have been given time to decide what position they want, according to party sources.

Senior TVK functionaries said the three—Jayakumar (Perundurai), Maragatham Kumaravel (Madurantakam) and Sathyabama (Dharapuram)—were elected on the AIADMK symbol before quitting and switching sides.

Sources claimed that ahead of the election, talks were held with 16 AIADMK district secretaries by former minister Sengottaiyan, but none were willing to move then. With the AIADMK now facing internal confusion, the Aadhav Arjuna camp is said to have reopened discussions.

TVK’s leadership has reportedly agreed to compensate the money spent during the election and asked whether the trio preferred contesting the bypoll in the same constituencies or taking board chairmanship posts. The three are said to have sought tickets again and, if they win, ministerial berths—an ask the leadership did not favour.

With the bypoll nearing, TVK is said to have indicated that tickets would be decided based on surveys, leaving the three uncertain about their prospects and considering board posts instead. The leadership has asked them to think and convey their decision, while talks are also said to be underway with seven AIADMK MLAs, including two former ministers.
