Chennai: Opposition leader Udhayanidhi has questioned Chief Minister Vijay over what he called a deterioration in law and order, asking where the government’s “Lioness Task Force” has gone.

In a statement, he said that even as the state was reeling from the shock of an alleged atrocity involving a minor girl in Sulur, another case of sexual violence against a minor was reported from Villupuram district. He also alleged that the Sulur girl’s body was cremated in haste without informing her mother.

Udhayanidhi further referred to a boy being killed near the Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai, a petrol bomb being thrown at a young woman’s house in Coimbatore, and a drug gang allegedly vandalising 13 vehicles in Perambur, the Chief Minister’s constituency.

With crime incidents rising and the public living in fear, he said holding meetings of police officials and issuing broad statements for “eye-wash” was unacceptable. He demanded that the Chief Minister directly answer what constructive measures the government would take to prevent crimes against women and children.
