The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has approved a three-member panel for the appointment of Tamil Nadu’s next Director General of Police (Law and Order), paving the way for an imminent selection.
A high-level consultative meeting to finalise the shortlist was held in New Delhi on Monday. The meeting was attended by senior officials including the Union Home Secretary and the Public Works Secretary.
Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Sai Kumar and Home Secretary Manivasan travelled to Delhi to take part in the discussions. The panel was prepared after reviewing eligible officers’ service records and seniority.
According to the approved list, the shortlisted IPS officers are Rajeev Kumar, Sandeep Rai Rathore and Maheshkumar Agarwal. The recommendation is expected to be formally sent to the Tamil Nadu government soon.
Once received, the state will appoint one of the three as the new law-and-order DGP. An official announcement is expected shortly.
