A public disagreement has surfaced within the Congress in Tamil Nadu, with MPs Manickam Tagore and Jothimani issuing contrasting statements on the “horse-trading” debate.
The row follows the resignation of four AIADMK MLAs, who then immediately joined the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Referring to the development, DMK leader M.K. Stalin alleged that “horse-trading” was taking place at “horse speed.”
Responding to Stalin’s charge, Tagore said the MLAs had resigned and joined TVK openly, questioning why there was such an outcry over the move.
Jothimani, however, said the Congress could not support every method adopted by TVK, and maintained that justifying horse-trading politics from within the Congress would be wrong. She added that the party could not take a double standard—supporting horse-trading in Tamil Nadu while opposing it elsewhere.
Following the statements, supporters of both MPs have traded accusations and posted critical messages against each other on social media.
