Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh visited the Chamundeshwari temple atop Chamundi Hills in Mysuru on Tuesday morning and sought forgiveness, as per an undertaking given to the High Court in connection with a case filed against him.
The issue traces back to a speech he delivered at an international film festival in Goa last year, where he allegedly made a facial expression that was seen as critical of the divine character portrayed in the Kannada blockbuster Kantara, directed by and starring Rishab Shetty. The act drew objections from sections of the Kannada community.
Following a complaint at Bengaluru’s High Grounds police station, a case was registered. Ranveer Singh later issued an apology on social media, but the matter proceeded in court. After hearings, his side assured the court that he would visit the Chamundi Hills temple and apologise to Goddess Chamundeshwari, which the court accepted and directed to be completed within a month.
On Tuesday, Ranveer Singh arrived wearing a face mask, prayed first at the Ganesha shrine outside the temple, and then had darshan of Goddess Chamundeshwari. He reportedly sat in prayer for around 10 minutes before leaving, with the visit becoming widely known only after photos circulated on social media.
Chamundeshwari Kshetra Development Authority Secretary Roopa said the actor arrived around 7:30 am like an ordinary devotee, was welcomed by temple staff with a garland, and spent some time offering prayers.
