Chennai: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has recommended three senior IPS officers to the Tamil Nadu government for appointment as the state’s next Director General of Police (DGP).

The current DGP, Sandeep Rai Rathod, was appointed by the Election Commission during the Assembly election period in April. His name was also included in the list considered for selecting the new DGP.

A meeting to finalise the panel was held on Tuesday at the UPSC office in New Delhi. Chief Secretary Sai Kumar and Home Secretary Manivasan attended the meeting.

According to the report, the Tamil Nadu government had submitted a list of 11 senior IPS officers. After scrutiny, UPSC finalised and recommended the names of Rajiv Kumar (DGP, Police Training Academy), incumbent DGP Sandeep Rai Rathod, and Mahesh Kumar Agarwal (serving in the central government).

The state government is expected to appoint one of the three officers as the new DGP.
