Warning over resignations and party switch
PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss on Tuesday criticised MLAs who resigned soon after being elected on AIADMK tickets and later joined the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Speaking to reporters in Puducherry, he said such moves go against the people’s mandate.
Madurantakam MLA singled out
Referring to Madurantakam MLA Maragatham Kumaravel, Anbumani said the legislator won as an AIADMK candidate, resigned the post and then joined TVK. He claimed Kumaravel would not be able to enter the Madurantakam constituency due to public anger.
PMK claims role in AIADMK wins
Anbumani said PMK cadres worked intensely for the AIADMK’s victory in Madurantakam, adding that the campaign was so aggressive that cases were filed under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against PMK members, including a district secretary. He also asserted that PMK’s efforts were a key factor in AIADMK wins in Perundurai and Dharapuram as well.
Appeal to TVK leadership and bypoll warning
He urged TVK leader Vijay and ministers to avoid encouraging such defections through resignations. Anbumani warned that voters—especially youth—could vote against such entrants in by-elections, and said opposition parties could even come together to field a common candidate against the four MLAs who resigned and joined TVK.
