Ebola infections are escalating in Congo, with the virus also spreading in neighbouring African countries including Uganda, raising concerns of wider transmission.
The World Health Organization has urged other countries to remain alert as the outbreak grows. Reports indicate more than 1,000 people have been affected, and 220 deaths have been recorded so far.
As Congo battles what has been declared a global public health emergency, India has extended support by sending emergency medical supplies to aid response measures.
Africa CDC confirmed receipt of the consignment, which includes diagnostic tools, treatment-related materials and infection-control supplies. The items are expected to be distributed quickly to affected areas.
Africa CDC also thanked the Government and people of India for the donation, noting India’s continued support aimed at saving lives and strengthening health security.
