Chennai: Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran has questioned Chief Minister Vijay over what he called a “heavy silence” following the announcement of Padma honours for achievers from the state.
Referring to the Centre’s announcement, Nagenthran said 13 people from Tamil Nadu were named for Padma awards, and that seven of them have already received Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan honours.
He described the awardees as individuals from ordinary backgrounds who, through exceptional talent, made the world take notice of Tamil Nadu.
Nagenthran said that even if not as Chief Minister, Vijay should have celebrated the moment as an ordinary Tamil, and asked whether this was the “debt of gratitude” owed to the state that elevated him to the top.
