Chennai: Former Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Thangabalu has denied reports that he is lobbying for a Rajya Sabha seat.

With one Rajya Sabha vacancy in Tamil Nadu, the Congress is said to be expecting the berth. Speculation suggested that Thangabalu and others were making efforts to secure the seat.

Responding to the reports, Thangabalu said his political career spans more than 50 years and that his work has already been recognised through various responsibilities.

He noted that he has served in multiple roles, including Youth Congress, state president, Lok Sabha MP, Rajya Sabha MP and Union minister. He also said he did not seek an Assembly election ticket for himself or his son, and added that he has not met anyone in Delhi to ask for a Rajya Sabha seat.
