Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, who recently assumed office, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday and submitted a petition seeking financial allocations for welfare-oriented schemes in the state.

Vijay arrived in Delhi on a two-day visit and checked into Tamil Nadu House at Chanakyapuri. Senior officials, including Chief Secretary Saikumar, received him, after which he was briefed on the state’s funding requests before heading to the Prime Minister’s Office.

The meeting at the PMO took place from 4:20 pm to 4:41 pm. Vijay presented a shawl and bouquet to the Prime Minister and handed over the memorandum on Tamil Nadu’s welfare schemes and related funding needs. Only the Chief Secretary accompanied him during the interaction.

Sources said issues such as the Parandur airport project, the PM SHRI scheme and the Kattupalli port were also discussed. After returning to Tamil Nadu House, Vijay later met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at the Finance Ministry and raised matters including pending dues, GST compensation share, paddy milling subsidy, MGNREGA, Metro projects, Jal Jeevan Mission and Samagra Shiksha funding.

A planned meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah did not take place due to prior engagements, officials said, adding that an appointment is expected soon.
