Villupuram: Communist Party of India (CPI) state secretary Veerappandian on Wednesday termed attempts to draw AIADMK MLAs into the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) camp as “anti-democratic” and unacceptable.
Speaking to reporters in Villupuram, he said the CPI and the CPI(M) are extending outside support to the TVK government led by Chief Minister Vijay, and would continue to support it for five years without creating hurdles. He added that the Left would not take part in any move aimed at toppling the government.
Veerappandian urged the Union government to act on the demands raised by the Chief Minister during his Delhi visit, including allowing the Tamil Thai Vazhthu to be sung first at government functions. He also called for setting up an aerial safety system in Tamil Nadu.
He said Karnataka’s efforts to build the Mekedatu dam across the Cauvery should be stopped and that a permanent solution must be found for fishermen’s issues. On the question of MLAs who switch parties, he said the Left would decide its stand if the TVK were to give such MLAs a chance in by-elections.
He also called on the Chief Minister to fully waive farmers’ loans.
