Decision on bypoll support pending

CPM state secretary Shanmugam said in Erode that the party has not yet taken a call on whether to support the DMK in the upcoming by-election. He said the decision will be made by the party’s state committee.

Allegations of misuse of agencies

Shanmugam alleged that the Enforcement Directorate’s search at the residence of former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was part of a pattern of targeting leaders disliked by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. He said such actions, including raids by the ED and Income Tax department, were condemnable.

Call for secular unity against BJP

He said the CPM is working to unite secular forces across India against the BJP, and added that the Congress has an added responsibility in this effort.

Criticism of state government and political conduct

Shanmugam said the state government had not acted on its election-time promise of farm loan waivers, and criticised the use of the Secretariat and government offices for party work. He also condemned AIADMK MLAs resigning within 20 days of being elected and joining another party soon after, calling it disrespectful to voters.

Why CPM backed TVK earlier

He said the CPM had supported TVK to prevent the BJP from forming a government “through the backdoor” in Tamil Nadu, and reiterated that the party’s stand on supporting the DMK in the by-election will be decided by the state committee.
