AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) has issued a directive that members who were earlier relieved of party responsibilities should not use their old positions for publicity.

The development comes amid internal churn in the party following a series of electoral setbacks. Reports said former minister C.V. Shanmugam had mobilised a group opposing EPS.

Former minister S.P. Velumani, who was part of that group, later turned it into a camp supporting T.Ve.K. EPS subsequently removed those who backed T.Ve.K from party posts.

In the ensuing split, four MLAs from the Velumani camp resigned and moved to T.Ve.K, while five MLAs returned to the Palaniswami camp. With the Velumani camp weakened, talks were held with EPS, leading to a compromise under the line “forget and forgive”, and both sides rejoined.

Following the reunion, EPS has now instructed that those who were removed from responsibilities should not advertise themselves by citing their previous party roles.
