Chennai Corporation has issued an order directing that building plan approvals be granted within 27 days from the date an application is registered in the city.

The directive follows the Chief Minister Vijay’s announcement that the government will ensure transparent administration after the change in regime, with departments being given clear timelines to complete official processes.

As per the order issued by Corporation Commissioner G.S. Sameeran, the assistant executive engineer must complete the site inspection within seven days of registration. The inspection report must be filed within the next two days, and scrutiny of documents must be completed within five days thereafter.

If clarifications are needed, additional details and documents are to be sought only through the online system within two days. Applicants may be given up to seven days to submit explanations or additional documents, followed by three days for online fee collection.

Finally, digital approval for the building permit drawing must be issued the next day, ensuring the overall 27-day limit. For applications with all documents correctly submitted, approval should be issued within 18 days. For projects already approved by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA), the construction licence must be issued within seven days, and the procedure is to be implemented immediately.
