Finance Minister Maria Wilson on Friday said the State’s agricultural loan waiver was carried out in line with directions issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Speaking to reporters in Velankanni, she also claimed that there were no RBI restrictions cited in the previous government’s handling of the farm loan waiver issue.
Wilson said the government is preparing a white paper on financial management during the DMK regime and that it would be presented within two weeks. She added that the document would include several key details.
She said review meetings are being held across departments and that she has sought audit reports. Wilson also alleged that evidence related to corruption in the Madurai Corporation has been collected and would be made public soon.
Referring to the farm loan waiver, she said the AIADMK government had announced it in 2021, and the subsequent DMK government implemented it through multiple phases. She added that the RBI introduced a new rule in 2024 and gave a 45-day timeline to complete the waiver, and the State’s decision was taken accordingly.
Wilson further said details about the women’s entitlement assistance would be reflected in the revised budget statement. She also remarked that in a democracy, people are free to join any party and that AIADMK members joining another party should be welcomed.
