Former Chief Minister and AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami has vacated the government bungalow ‘Sevvanthi Illam’ on Chennai’s Greenways Road, where he had lived for about 15 years.

Palaniswami was allotted the bungalow after winning the 2011 Assembly election and becoming a minister. He continued to stay there after his 2016 victory, and remained in the same residence even after becoming Chief Minister in 2017.

Following the 2021 election, despite AIADMK losing power, he continued to occupy the bungalow in his capacity as Leader of the Opposition. However, after the recently concluded Assembly election, AIADMK lost its opposition status, leading to the need for him to vacate the official residence.

He has now moved into a house on Deivasigamani Street in Royapettah, close to the AIADMK headquarters. A housewarming ceremony, including a traditional milk-boiling ritual, was attended by his family.

The report said the house belongs to an Andhra-based industrialist who is close to Palaniswami, and it is being provided without rent.
