Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay travelled to Delhi on May 27 for a two-day visit. He met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman that evening, but returned to Chennai in haste after dropping other planned meetings.

According to IAS officers’ circles, Tamil Nadu House in Delhi functions as the state’s liaison office with the Centre and is run under two IAS officers to coordinate arrangements for visiting state leaders. However, they said the full details of the Chief Minister’s itinerary were known only to his personal team.

The Chief Secretary, Saikumar, had reached Delhi a day earlier, but was reportedly told only that the schedule was “subject to change”. As a result, officials said they could not clearly finalise the programme with Tamil Nadu House, and the Modi–Vijay meeting ended in just 1 minute and 19 seconds.

They added that the plan to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah was altered more than three times and did not take place. A customary media interaction arranged by Tamil Nadu House was also cancelled at the last minute by those accompanying the Chief Minister.

Officials further claimed that even the Chief Minister’s Private Secretary, Senthil Kumar, could not discuss the itinerary in detail during the flight, as several others—including a hair stylist, an assistant and a friend—were present. They said the inability of senior officials to access the Chief Minister contributed to the confusion in Delhi.
