Iran has claimed it shot down a US unmanned aerial vehicle after it allegedly entered Iranian airspace. The announcement was made in Tehran, alongside a warning of stricter controls in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, its air defence units destroyed a US MQ-1 drone early on Saturday. Iran said the drone was detected while attempting to engage in what it described as an attack-related operation and was brought down using missiles, as reported by the Tasnim news agency.

There was no immediate confirmation from the US side regarding the incident. Iran also recalled that it had earlier claimed to have shot down a US MQ-9 drone on the 26th, and said it had carried out an attack on a fighter aircraft that entered its airspace.

Separately, Iran issued a warning to commercial and military vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, saying they must comply with Iranian regulations. Iran’s military said the administration of the strait is fully under the control of its armed forces, and instructed ships to travel only along designated routes and obtain permission from the Iranian navy, warning of security threats for violations.
