Bengaluru: Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah resigned from his post on May 28, following directions from the Congress high command.

To elect a new leader of the Congress Legislature Party, the party’s MLAs met at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru at 4 pm on Saturday evening. Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal and party in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala were among those present.

During the meeting, Siddaramaiah proposed D.K. Shivakumar’s name for the post. With support from all MLAs, Shivakumar was unanimously elected as the Congress Legislature Party leader.

After the selection, Shivakumar met Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot at Raj Bhavan, submitted the letter confirming his election, and staked claim to form the government.

As per the decision, Shivakumar will take oath as Karnataka’s new Chief Minister on June 3. The new Council of Ministers will also be sworn in the same day.
