MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Friday said he does not agree with allegations that “horse-trading” or deception was involved in four AIADMK MLAs resigning their posts and joining the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
Speaking to reporters at Chathirapatti near Rajapalayam in Virudhunagar district, Vaiko noted that the resignations and subsequent switch have drawn sharp criticism from various quarters. However, he said he differs from the view that the move was driven by inducements.
Vaiko cited a 2009 precedent, recalling that MDMK MLA Kambam Ramakrishnan and then AIADMK minister Anita Radhakrishnan had resigned and joined the DMK, later winning as DMK candidates in a by-election. He said a similar course has now been followed by the four former AIADMK MLAs, adding that he neither supports nor opposes their decision.
Separately, Vaiko said an indefinite fast will be held under his leadership on June 5 at Vasudevanallur, urging the Tamil Nadu government to implement the Ullaaru scheme for the benefit of farmers in the Rajapalayam and Sankarankovil regions and to renovate the Shenbagavalli dam in Tenkasi district.
