Israel’s military has announced that it has brought the 900-year-old Beaufort Castle in southern Lebanon under its control. The fortress is located near the city of Nabatieh and is considered a major historical landmark.
The development comes amid heightened tensions in West Asia after the United States and Israel launched a war against Iran. In response, the Iran-backed Hezbollah group in Lebanon carried out attacks on Israel, prompting continued Israeli strikes.
According to the report, Beaufort Castle was built during the Crusader period in the 12th century. Israel had previously seized the site during the 1982 war with Lebanon and used it as a military base.
When Israeli forces fully withdrew from Lebanon in 2000, they left the fortress. Now, 26 years later, Israel has again taken the castle and hoisted its national flag there, further intensifying the war-like situation in Lebanon.
