Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) schools in Tamil Nadu have begun offering students an option to learn Tamil under the Centre’s three-language policy.

As per the National Education Policy, the three-language formula has been made mandatory from this academic year. While the Tamil Nadu government continues to oppose the move, the policy has been implemented in centrally controlled KV schools and CBSE-affiliated schools in the state.

In KV schools, students from Classes 3 to 9 can now study either Tamil or Sanskrit as a third language. Teachers have briefed students and parents and asked them to select one of the two as an optional language.

Parents have welcomed the change, noting that many Tamil Nadu students in KV schools earlier did not have an opportunity to learn Tamil, which is now available through the three-language policy.
