India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection for May 2026 was reported at Rs 1.94 lakh crore, according to details released by the government.
The government attributed the increase to higher supply of goods and services and a rise in revenue from imports. The May collection is 3.2% higher than the Rs 1.88 lakh crore recorded in May last year.
In the May 2026 breakup, CGST stood at Rs 37,397 crore, SGST at Rs 45,143 crore and IGST at Rs 51,990 crore. GST refunds also rose 2.6% to Rs 27,281 crore.
Import-related gross GST revenue increased 19.1% year-on-year to Rs 59,654 crore. In Tamil Nadu, GST collection fell to Rs 9,834 crore in May 2026 from Rs 11,582 crore a year ago, a decline of 15%.
Recent monthly GST collections were: April 2026 (Rs 2.43 lakh crore), March 2026 (Rs 2.01 lakh crore), February 2026 (Rs 1.83 lakh crore), January 2026 (Rs 1.93 lakh crore), December 2025 (Rs 1.74 lakh crore) and November 2025 (Rs 1.70 lakh crore).
