Chennai: Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) general secretary Premalatha on Sunday made a striking claim, saying Chief Minister Vijay would have come to her home and offered the Deputy Chief Minister’s post if she had asked for it.

She was speaking at a meeting of DMDK district secretaries held at the party’s headquarters in Koyambedu. Referring to the recent Assembly election outcome, she said it was “like a tsunami”, and added that developments in the state were making people think.

Premalatha said DMDK had contested the election as part of the DMK-led secular alliance, and that the current Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government was formed with the support of parties in that alliance. She said the new party in power should be given six months’ time.

Stressing that DMDK was not seeking positions, she said the party remained loyal to the alliance it had chosen. She also criticised AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami, alleging that those who left the AIADMK alliance for self-interest in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls were given respect in the Assembly election, while those who stood by the party were not.

She recalled Palaniswami’s earlier remark describing DMDK as an “ICU party”, and claimed that it was now his party that had ended up in the ICU.
