Nomination filing for Tamil Nadu’s only vacant Rajya Sabha seat begins on June 1, according to the Election Commission.

The vacancy arose after C.V. Shanmugam, who won the Mayilam Assembly constituency during the Assembly elections, resigned from his Rajya Sabha membership before contesting.

Candidates can file nominations from June 1 to June 8. Scrutiny of nominations is scheduled for June 9, and June 11 is the last date for withdrawal.

Polling for the by-election will take place on June 18 from 9 am to 4 pm. Vote counting will begin immediately after polling ends the same day, and results will be announced later.

The Election Commission noted that elections are also being held for 24 Rajya Sabha seats across 10 states, including Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Gujarat.
