New Delhi: Annamalai has resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and submitted his resignation letter to the party’s national president, Nitin Nabin.

Amid reports that he was unhappy over not being given a position in the party and was considering launching a separate outfit, the BJP’s Delhi leadership had called him for talks. He flew from Chennai to Delhi and stayed at a private star hotel.

On June 2, Annamalai met Nitin Nabin and held discussions, after which he formally handed over his resignation.

Annamalai, born on June 4, 1984, in Thottampatti near Chinnadharapuram in Karur district, was selected as an IPS officer in 2011 and served as an SP in multiple districts in Karnataka. He joined the BJP in 2020 and was appointed Tamil Nadu BJP president in 2021.

He contested the 2021 Assembly election from Aravakurichi and the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Coimbatore, and lost in both. He stepped down as state president in April 2025, but continued campaigning for BJP alliance candidates in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala Assembly elections.
