Chennai: Chief Minister Vijay on Sunday said he would not rest until he delivers a corruption-free administration, asking people to “give a little time” and promising to prove it through action. He made the remarks while addressing a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) thanksgiving public meeting in Trichy.
Vijay had contested the Assembly election from Chennai’s Perambur and Trichy East, winning in both constituencies. He later resigned as the Trichy East MLA, and with a by-election expected there soon, TVK organised the meeting to thank voters.
The event was held at the St Joseph’s College grounds in Trichy and was chaired by TVK general secretary and minister Anand. School Education Minister Rajmohan, HR&CE Minister Ramesh and former minister and board chairman K.P. Krishnan also addressed the gathering.
In his speech, Vijay described Perambur and Trichy East as his “two eyes” and called Trichy East his “favourite child,” urging voters to ensure victory for the candidate he fields in the upcoming bypoll. He also took aim at critics, saying those who had spoken of staying quiet for six months after his government took office could not remain silent even for six days.
Vijay said TVK had secured a vote share higher than what AIADMK founder M.G. Ramachandran received in his first election, while adding he was not comparing himself to MGR. He claimed the principal contest remained between TVK and the DMK, and asked supporters to continue their criticism and scrutiny, calling it his strength as he focused on delivering benefits to the public.
