Chennai: DMK members who submitted “voluntary petitions” to contest Assembly seats allotted to alliance partners have urged the party leadership to refund the fees they paid.
Ahead of the Assembly election, the DMK invited applications from aspirants across 234 constituencies. The party fixed a Rs 1,000 application form fee, along with a voluntary petition fee of Rs 25,000 for general constituencies and Rs 15,000 for women and reserved constituencies.
Applications were collected for all 234 Tamil Nadu Assembly constituencies and the 30 constituencies in Puducherry. In total, the collections reportedly crossed Rs 23 crore.
The DMK leadership had earlier announced that fees would be returned to those who paid for constituencies later allotted to alliance parties. With a month having passed since the election concluded, applicants from such seats have now renewed their request for refunds.
