Chennai: Following the DMK’s defeat in the Assembly election, the party lost power and several senior leaders, including party president M.K. Stalin, general secretary Duraimurugan and many ministers, were defeated, according to party sources.

At a DMK cadre meeting held in Thoothukudi, a resolution was passed urging deputy general secretary Kanimozhi, MP, to enter state-level politics and support the party’s growth. Separately, Salem West district DMK functionary Kathiravan wrote to Stalin suggesting that giving Kanimozhi a key role in state politics could help attract women voters.

Against this backdrop, the DMK women’s wing has announced consecutive programmes. A felicitation event for women who worked during the election campaign is scheduled for Tuesday at 5 pm in R.A. Puram, Chennai, to be chaired by Kanimozhi.

On June 13, a feedback meeting on the election defeat will be held at the party headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, with Stalin and Kanimozhi set to participate. Women’s wing office-bearers said the meetings are aimed at rebuilding after the defeat, strengthening the wing and turning the setback into a stepping stone for future success.
