The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has forecast heavy rain at isolated places in 16 districts of Tamil Nadu on June 3 and June 4, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.
In its bulletin, the RMC said that on June 2, isolated places across several districts may receive heavy rain with lightning and strong winds. The districts mentioned include Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Karur, Namakkal, Erode, Salem, Tiruchirappalli, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupathur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Kanniyakumari.
For June 3 and 4, the weather office specifically highlighted 16 districts—Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Tiruppur, Tenkasi, Dindigul, Tirunelveli, Kanniyakumari, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupathur, Vellore, Ranipet and Tiruvannamalai—where heavy rain may occur at isolated places with thunder and gusty winds.
The bulletin also said that on June 5, similar conditions may extend to more districts, including Thoothukudi, Virudhunagar, Kallakurichi, Sivaganga, Madurai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai.
Meanwhile, squally winds of 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are likely over the Tamil Nadu coastal areas, the Gulf of Mannar and the Kumari Sea from June 3 to June 6. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into these sea areas during the period.
